EARNEST MONEY
The deposit money given to the seller by the potential buyer upon signing the agreement of sale to show that the buyer is serious about buying the house.
 
EASEMENT
A right of way giving persons other than the property owner access to or over a property.
 
EMINENT DOMAIN
A Government right to acquire private property for public use by condemnation, and the payment of just compensation.
 
ENCUMBRANCE
Anything that affects the title to a property such as a mortgage, judgment, or easement.
 
ENDORSER
A person who signs ownership interest over to another party.
 
EQUITY
The difference between the current market value of a property and the principal balance of all outstanding loans.
 
ESCROW
An item of value, money, or documents deposited with a third party to be delivered upon the fulfillment of a condition.
 
ESTATE
The ownership interest an individual holds in real property.
 
EVICTION
The lawful expulsion of an occupant from real property.
